How to Use This Date Calculator
Our date calculator offers three powerful modes to handle any date calculation you need. Each mode is designed for a specific type of calculation, making it easy to get accurate results in seconds. Here is a step-by-step guide to using each one.
Days Between Two Dates
Select the Days Between tab above. Enter your start date and end date using the date pickers or by typing the date directly. Click Calculate Days to see the total number of days, along with a detailed breakdown showing years, months, weeks, weekdays, weekend days, and hours. For example, if you enter January 1, 2026 as the start date and December 31, 2026 as the end date, the calculator returns 364 days (or 365 if you check "Include end date"). This mode is ideal for calculating the length of a contract, the time between two events, or how many weeks and months separate two dates.
Add Days to a Date
Switch to the Add Days tab. Enter a start date, the number of units to add, and select whether you want to add days, weeks, months, or years. Click Calculate Date to see the resulting future date, including the day of the week, week number, and quarter. For instance, adding 90 days from today is commonly used to determine visa deadlines, probationary period end dates, or return policy expirations. You can also add any number of days to any date.
Subtract Days from a Date
Use the Subtract Days tab to calculate a past date. Enter the reference date, the number to subtract, and the unit. This is useful when you need to find a start date by working backward from a deadline. For example, if a project is due on June 15 and you need 30 days to complete it, subtracting 30 days tells you to start by May 16.
Include or Exclude End Date
In the Days Between mode, you can check the "Include end date" option to add one day to the total count. This is important in legal and financial contexts where "inclusive" counting is required. For example, a 30-day notice period starting January 1 ends on January 30 (exclusive) or January 31 (inclusive). Many business day calculations and court filing deadlines use inclusive counting, so choose the option that matches your specific need.
Common Date Calculations — Days From Today

Months of the Year — Days and Details
Knowing the number of days in each month is essential for accurate date calculations. The table below provides a complete reference, including the quarter, season, and notable holidays for each month. For a more detailed breakdown, see our guide on days in each month.
| Month | Days | Quarter | Season | Notable Holidays |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 31 | Q1 | Winter | New Year's Day, MLK Day |
| February | 28 / 29 | Q1 | Winter | Presidents' Day, Valentine's Day |
| March | 31 | Q1 | Winter / Spring | Spring Equinox |
| April | 30 | Q2 | Spring | Easter (varies), Tax Day |
| May | 31 | Q2 | Spring | Memorial Day, Mother's Day |
| June | 30 | Q2 | Spring / Summer | Father's Day, Summer Solstice |
| July | 31 | Q3 | Summer | Independence Day |
| August | 31 | Q3 | Summer | — |
| September | 30 | Q3 | Summer / Fall | Labor Day |
| October | 31 | Q4 | Fall | Columbus Day, Halloween |
| November | 30 | Q4 | Fall | Veterans Day, Thanksgiving |
| December | 31 | Q4 | Fall / Winter | Christmas, Winter Solstice |
| Total: 365 days (366 in leap years, when February has 29 days) | ||||
A helpful rhyme: "Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November. All the rest have thirty-one, except February alone, which has twenty-eight days clear, and twenty-nine in each leap year."
Quarterly Breakdown — Days per Quarter
Quarterly planning is common in business, finance, and academic settings. The table below shows how many days each quarter contains in both regular and leap years.
| Quarter | Months | Days (Non-Leap) | Days (Leap Year) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 | January – March | 90 | 91 |
| Q2 | April – June | 91 | 91 |
| Q3 | July – September | 92 | 92 |
| Q4 | October – December | 92 | 92 |
| Total: 365 days (non-leap) / 366 days (leap year) | |||
Q1 is the shortest quarter in regular years. The extra day in a leap year always falls in Q1 because it is added to February. This distinction matters for financial reporting, quarterly earnings, and business day calculations.
Business Days vs Calendar Days
Understanding the difference between business days and calendar days is critical for legal deadlines, payment terms, shipping estimates, and employment contracts. Calendar days count every day on the calendar, while business days exclude weekends and optionally federal holidays. Here is a side-by-side comparison.
| Aspect | Calendar Days | Business Days |
|---|---|---|
| Days per week | 7 | 5 (Monday–Friday) |
| Includes weekends | Yes | No |
| Includes holidays | Yes | Typically no |
| 30-day period equals | ~4.3 weeks | ~6 calendar weeks |
| Days per year (approx.) | 365 | 251–252 |
| Common uses | Contracts, leases, insurance | Shipping, payroll, court filings |
When a contract specifies "30 days," it almost always means 30 calendar days. When shipping companies say "5–7 business days," that translates to roughly 7–9 calendar days. Our Business Days Calculator handles both scenarios and lets you optionally exclude US federal holidays for maximum accuracy.
For a complete explanation of when to use each type, read our guide: Business Days vs Calendar Days Explained.
US Federal Holidays 2026
Federal holidays affect business day calculations, shipping schedules, and government operations. In 2026, there are 11 federal holidays recognized by the US government. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is observed; when it falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is observed.
| Holiday | 2026 Date | Day | Federal Closure |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Year's Day | January 1 | Thursday | Yes |
| Martin Luther King Jr. Day | January 19 | Monday | Yes |
| Presidents' Day | February 16 | Monday | Yes |
| Memorial Day | May 25 | Monday | Yes |
| Juneteenth | June 19 | Friday | Yes |
| Independence Day | July 4 | Saturday | Yes (observed July 3) |
| Labor Day | September 7 | Monday | Yes |
| Columbus Day | October 12 | Monday | Yes |
| Veterans Day | November 11 | Wednesday | Yes |
| Thanksgiving | November 26 | Thursday | Yes |
| Christmas Day | December 25 | Friday | Yes |
For detailed information about each holiday and how observation rules work, see our comprehensive guide: US Federal Holidays 2026.

Date Calculation Use Cases
Date calculations are used far more often than most people realize. Below are the most common scenarios grouped by category, with links to the relevant calculators and guides.
Business & Legal
Contracts, invoices, and legal proceedings frequently reference specific day counts. Payment terms like "Net 30" or "Net 60" mean payment is due within 30 or 60 calendar days of the invoice date. Statute of limitations periods, filing deadlines, and notice requirements are often measured in both calendar and business days. Tax deadlines—such as the April 15 federal income tax due date—require precise date awareness to avoid penalties. Our date calculator helps you determine exact due dates for any contract or legal obligation.
Shipping & Logistics
When an online retailer promises delivery in "5–7 business days," understanding exactly when your package will arrive requires calculating business days from the ship date. Return policies often specify "30 days from delivery," so knowing the exact deadline prevents missed returns. Our Business Days Calculator handles shipping estimates, and for a deeper dive, see our shipping days calculator guide.
Immigration & Travel
Visa validity periods, passport expiration rules, and travel regulations all depend on precise date counting. The Schengen Area's 90/180 rule allows travelers to stay up to 90 days within any 180-day rolling window. US visa waiver program entries allow a maximum 90-day stay. Passport renewal applications should be submitted at least 180 days before the expiration date for international travel. Use our Add Days calculator to determine your visa expiration date or when to renew your passport.
Healthcare & Medical
Medical professionals and patients regularly calculate dates for pregnancy due dates (typically 280 days or 40 weeks from the last menstrual period), medication schedules, follow-up appointments, and insurance claim deadlines. A pregnancy due date calculator uses the same logic as our Add Days tool—simply add 280 days to the LMP date. Post-surgical follow-ups are often scheduled 7, 14, 30, or 90 days after a procedure.
Personal & Life Events
Curious how many days you have been alive? Planning an anniversary celebration or counting down to a milestone birthday? Date calculators make these personal calculations effortless. You can also plan ahead for retirement countdowns, lease end dates, or warranty expirations. Our countdown calculators keep you informed about upcoming holidays and events.
Education
Academic calendars revolve around specific date ranges. Semesters typically span 120–150 days, application deadlines are set months in advance, and graduation dates mark the end of multi-year programs. Students can use our calculator to determine how many days remain until the end of the semester, when to submit applications, or how many weeks are left before graduation. Teachers use date calculations for grading periods, report card deadlines, and scheduling parent-teacher conferences.
Leap Years and Date Calculations
A leap year contains 366 days instead of the usual 365, with the extra day added as February 29. Leap years exist because Earth's orbit around the Sun takes approximately 365.2422 days—not exactly 365. Without the correction, our calendar would drift by about 24 days every century.
Leap Year Rules
The Gregorian calendar determines leap years using three rules applied in order:
- Divisible by 4: The year is a leap year.
- Divisible by 100: The year is not a leap year (century exception).
- Divisible by 400: The year is a leap year (overrides the century exception).
| Year | Leap Year? | Days | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Yes | 366 | Divisible by 4, not by 100 |
| 2025 | No | 365 | Not divisible by 4 |
| 2026 | No | 365 | Not divisible by 4 |
| 2028 | Yes | 366 | Divisible by 4, not by 100 |
| 1900 | No | 365 | Divisible by 100 but not by 400 |
| 2000 | Yes | 366 | Divisible by 400 |
| 2100 | No | 365 | Divisible by 100 but not by 400 |
Impact on Date Calculations
Leap years affect any calculation that spans February of a leap year. Adding 365 days from January 1 in a leap year lands on December 31 (not January 1 of the next year). Our calculator automatically accounts for leap years, so you always get the correct result. For more details, read our complete leap year guide.

Use our 90 days from today calculator for the exact date. The 90-day period is commonly used for visa validity, medical follow-ups, probationary employment periods, and legal notice requirements. You can also use the Add Days calculator with any number.
Use our dedicated Business Days Calculator. Business days exclude weekends (Saturday and Sunday). You can optionally exclude US federal holidays. This is essential for shipping estimates, legal deadlines, and payment terms like Net 30 or Net 60.
Calendar days include every day (7 per week). Business days include only Monday–Friday (5 per week), typically excluding federal holidays. For example, "30 calendar days" is about 4 weeks, while "30 business days" is 6 weeks. Read our guide on business days vs calendar days.
A regular year has 365 days. A leap year has 366 days (the extra day is February 29). In terms of business days, a typical year has approximately 251–252 working days after excluding weekends and federal holidays. See our guide on how many days in a year.
Divide the total number of days by 7. Our Weeks & Months Between calculator does this automatically and also shows remaining days. For example, 100 days equals 14 weeks and 2 days. The Days Between calculator above also displays a weeks breakdown.
Use our Days Alive Calculator. Enter your birth date and it instantly calculates your exact age in days, weeks, hours, and minutes. It also shows your next milestone (like your 10,000th day alive) and on which date it falls. Read more at how many days old am I.
Easter 2026 falls on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Easter's date changes every year because it is determined by the lunar calendar—it falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox. Use our Days Until Easter countdown to see exactly how far away it is.
Adding months is not as simple as adding 30 days because months have different lengths (28–31 days). Our Add Days calculator handles this correctly—select "Months" as the unit and it adds calendar months. For example, adding 1 month to January 31 gives February 28 (or 29 in a leap year), adjusting for the shorter month automatically.
The Schengen 90/180 rule allows non-EU travelers to stay in the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day rolling period. It is not a simple 90-day-on, 90-day-off cycle. Use our 90 Days From Today calculator to track your remaining days.
There are 251 business days in 2026 (excluding weekends and 10 federal holidays that fall on weekdays). The year has 261 weekdays total, minus 10 holiday closures. Use our Business Days Calculator to find business days between any two dates in 2026.
A leap year has 366 days instead of 365, with February 29 as the extra day. A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except for century years which must be divisible by 400. The last leap year was 2024, and the next one is 2028. Read our full leap year guide for more details.
